The Netherlands

Discovering the Netherlands: A Land of Diverse Provinces and Unique Charm

The Netherlands is made up of twelve distinct provinces, each with its own unique character. Two of them, Noord-Holland and Zuid-Holland, include “Holland” in their names. While Amsterdam, the nation’s capital, is located in Noord-Holland, the government and parliament are based in The Hague (Den Haag) in Zuid-Holland. Along with Utrecht, these provinces form the most densely populated areas in the country.

Beyond these, the Netherlands has ten other fascinating provinces: Zeeland, Noord-Brabant, Limburg, Overijssel, Gelderland, Groningen, Drenthe, Friesland, and Flevoland. Flevoland is the newest addition, officially completed in 1986-yes, the Dutch built an entire province from reclaimed land! Mastering water management is something the Dutch take pride in.

Every province in the Netherlands has something special to offer. From unique dialects and regional delicacies to rich histories and breathtaking landscapes, each region tells its own story. Some provinces boast “Dutch mountains” (which, at 300 meters high, are quite a feat compared to the country’s lowest point at -6 meters below sea level), while others are home to picturesque villages, vibrant cities, or stunning natural reserves.

The Netherlands is more than Just Amsterdam!

Having been travel to this country for years and now finally reside here, there are so much more of my love for this country and I would love to show you. The Netherlands is definitely not just windmill, tulips and Amsterdam. The Netherlands is so much more awaiting for your to explore.

No matter your travel style, whether you’re seeking relaxation, adventure, cultural experiences, or natures, the Netherlands has something for you. If you have any questions or suggestions for future articles, feel free to leave a comment or reach out! Happy exploring!

Of course, there is a difference between living in the Netherlands and visiting for a short holiday. I still remember the first time I visited this country in 2016. I came for a business event held in Amsterdam. The five-day event led me to extend my stay for another week, and then another trip, and more—because I simply fell in love with this country.

For friends and family interested in visiting the Netherlands for a short trip, I’ve put together an organized itinerary based on my own experiences. This trip plan is designed to showcase the beauty of the country within a limited time, ensuring a memorable experience even on a short visit.
